Early days
Dave started sailing VJs (11 foot skiffs) on Port Phillip at the age of 15 and in 1982 bought a yacht "Marloo", the first L.Francis Herreshoff 28 built in the world which he worked on extensively before sailing to the Whitsundays in 1984 from Metung in the Gippsland Lakes, Victoria.
Eliana
After owning a "TopHat" 25, "Wayward Lady" Dave purchased a steel Adams 40 cutter which became named "Eliana" after his 2 daughters Ellie and Annabel. Eliana has taken him up and down the east coast of Australia several times, down to Tasmania and the South West Pacific including New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu in 2007.
Around the worldIn March 2013 Dave left Williamstown on a 2 year circumnavigation which became 5 years has done over 28,000 nautical miles of which almost 16000 miles was solo sailing until he took pity on a marooned maiden in Panama who became his “Galley Slave.” Dave and “ GS” arrived back in Metung in November 2017.
The trip is recorded in detail on Dave's blogs HomeDave now resides at home in Wonderful Williamstown and still frequents his yacht Eliana in the Gippsland Lakes as often as possible.
